Rockbridge Animal Alliance (RAA) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization to help the animals in Rockbridge County, Lexington, and Buena Vista through a variety of projects.  We are excited to work alongside other local nonprofit groups in our community that are as committed as we are to improving the quality of life for animals in our community and decreasing the numbers of animals that are ending up at the shelter.

Check out our events page for the upcoming health and wellness activities for your pets as well as upcoming fundraisers to support animals in the community.

UPDATE: Family comes through in taking Zelda! Love happy endings! Side note: we need to work on improving the culture to have more pet-friendly housing.

Meet Zelda, a dog in need of a new loving, stable home.

From Zelda's owner, "I have a truly lovely dog who deserves a good, caring home. I'm moving to Montreal to be with my fiancee, and it seems impossible for me to find an apartment that allows bigger dogs. [Editor's note: Montreal has had some controversial dog laws recently lifted.] This dilemma has kept me up at night because I love my dog so much that the idea of separation kills me. So if I can assure that she finds a happy home, I would be eternally grateful.

"Her name is Zelda, and she's a Labrador mix of some kind I picked up at a shelter. She may be big, around 90 lbs, but she is by far and away the most sensitive and gentle dog I've ever come across. I'm sure a lot of people think that about their own dogs but I've never seen her growl at another dog or show hostility. She is only curious and wants to play. She has never had the opportunity to be socialized with cats however, so I don't know what to expect there. Although I can't be sure about her age, I don't think she's any more than 4 years old. She's up to date on all vaccines and shots."
